Are there age restrictions in the weight room?

Yes. You must be at least 15 years old to be in the weight room workout areas.

The NRC offers opportunities for youth ages 6 to 14 to train based on ACSM guidelines.  Youth must first complete an appointment with a NRC trainer. After completion they may then train using their trainer designed workout. Below are the options for each age group.

  • Ages 13-14: Upon completion of the NRC’s Youth Strength Training Course (YST) these ages may gain access to the weight room with some restrictions outlined in class. Register for YST at the program desk or online.
  • Ages 10-14: Upon completion of an orientation with a NRC trainer, these ages may schedule both a ZONE (circuit training specifically designed for this age group) and a functional training workout.  Appointments can be made at the trainers’ desk in the weight room.
  • Ages 6+: Upon completion of an orientation with a NRC trainer, we offer functional training based on age-appropriate abilities and industry recommendations.  Ages 6-9 must be accompanied by an adult for both orientation and workouts for safety purposes. Appointments can be made at the trainers’ desk in the weight room.
